The wrongful death lawsuit of former NFL quarterback Dwayne Haskins has been settled and dismissed.

The wrongful death lawsuit filed by Kalabrya Haskins, widow of former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins, has officially been settled and dismissed, concluding a legal battle that began after his tragic passing in April 2022. Haskins was just 24 years old when he was struck and killed by a dump truck while attempting to cross a highway in Florida.

Background of the Case

Dwayne Haskins died on April 9, 2022, after being hit by a dump truck while trying to retrieve his vehicle, which had run out of gas. At the time of the incident, he was in Florida for training with his Steelers teammates. Following his death, Kalabrya Haskins filed a wrongful death lawsuit alleging negligence against multiple parties, including the truck driver, a rental car company, and other entities involved in the circumstances leading to the accident.

Settlement Details

According to attorney Rick Ellsley, who represented Kalabrya Haskins, all settlements have been reached and compensated, leading to the dismissal of the case. While specific financial terms of the settlements remain confidential, Ellsley described them as “substantial.” The lawsuit initially named over a dozen defendants and raised serious allegations regarding inadequate safety measures and reckless behavior on the part of those involved.

Legal Proceedings

The lawsuit was filed in Broward County, Florida, approximately one year after Haskins’ death. In August 2023, Kalabrya reached settlements with several key defendants, including the owners and driver of the dump truck. The final dismissal marks the end of a lengthy legal process that highlighted not only the tragic circumstances surrounding Haskins’ death but also ongoing family disputes regarding his legacy.

With the settlement and dismissal of the wrongful death lawsuit, Kalabrya Haskins can now begin to close this painful chapter following her husband’s untimely passing. As discussions about Dwayne Haskins’ legacy continue within the football community, this resolution allows for reflection on his life and career as a promising young quarterback in the NFL.
