A Washington state woman who unsuccessfully ran for mayor of Colorado Springs in 2019, has been charged with trying to abduct a three-week-old child. According to authorities, the 6-year-old boy has been released on $ 5.75 bond and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday.
Juliet Parker and her teenage daughter are suspected to have appeared as a photographer and drug a new mother to steal her newborn. Parker was released on a $ 50,000 bond Sunday afternoon, according to reporter Carter Evans.
Authorities have told CBS News more than 10 people since his arrest that Parker came to their house to take pictures. Investigators believe he found the baby he wanted to steal.
Authorities say Parker used social media to provide free maternity and newborn pictures to unwanted mothers. He said he wanted to build his portfolio, but detectives alleged that his original motive was worse.
“He wanted a girl,” said Ed Troy of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. “She wanted them five weeks or less so she could make it on her own, take it out of state and think it was her own newborn”
A Washington state mother answered the post, inviting Parker to her home three times. Police say the woman was seen carrying a selfie with Parker’s baby and wiping fingerprints from items she touched inside the home.
During the third visit, authorities say Parker and his 16-year-old daughter gave the woman a cup of cake. The mother suddenly started to feel nauseous and was feeling faint and tired. He ordered the two to leave and called 911, only to realize the keys to his room had been stolen.
“Basically he was drugged,” Troy said. “They put drugs in the cup cup, she ate it and they tried to take her baby.”
Parker and his daughter were arrested at their home about 5 miles south of Seattle.
Parker has been charged with attempted kidnapping and assault. His lawyer declined to speak to “CBS This Morning.” Authorities have not released details of Parker’s daughter being a minor.
As the alleged victim, he has been released from the hospital.
Victoria Morris, who went on to respond to a Facebook post with Parker, said something surprising about her: “He used his sleeve to open the front door. And when he came home, he wasn’t even sitting on a chair; he was sitting on the ground.”
Parker took pictures of the expectant mother and was supposed to be inside the delivery room with him. However, it appears that Morris gave birth on the day Parker was arrested.
“I was shocked, but I also … I didn’t want to believe it, to be honest, because I was just upset about it,” Morris said. “I think this should be a warning to other moms. It makes me anxious to know that people like this can be so crafty and really go their way in your life, and it’s so easy to get involved.”
Authorities say that 3-year-old Parker failed last year as mayor of Colorado Springs, acting under several aliases, including “Juliet Noel” and “Juliet Gaines.”
Inside Ballotpedia Candidate Survey In his position as mayor of 2002, Parker described the qualities he felt would make him a successful officer: “Honest, good moral code and compassion, caring, respectful, smart, understanding, common sense, passionate, ethics, The power has to think outside the box. “
