Google enhances privacy for Pixel devices with a built-in VPN feature, offering secure internet access and improved data protection.

Google Introduces Free Built-in VPN for Pixel 7 and 8 Series Devices

In a significant move to bolster user security, Google has launched a complimentary, integrated VPN service for its Pixel 7 and 8 series smartphones.

This VPN, seamlessly embedded within the device settings, eliminates the need for additional third-party applications, making the activation process smoother and more user-friendly.

Early user reviews have been largely favorable, with many users reporting that the VPN has minimal effect on internet speed. The service is particularly advantageous when connected to unsecured public Wi-Fi networks, where it can protect personal data and even bypass potential ISP throttling.

Privacy-Conscious Features Set Pixel Devices Apart in the Competitive Market

Google has gone a step further by introducing app exclusions, allowing users to designate specific apps to bypass the VPN, offering more flexibility and customization.

Previously, Google provided a VPN service as part of its Google One subscription, but this feature has now been discontinued, leaving some users uncertain about the availability of VPN services across the company’s portfolio. Unlike the Google One VPN, the Pixel VPN is available for free to users of the Pixel 7 and newer models, creating a distinct separation between the two services.

While many embrace the added privacy benefits, some users remain cautious, wary of entrusting Google with their personal data, given the company’s track record in data collection.

However, there are those who argue that Google’s VPN service might offer a safer alternative to numerous third-party VPN providers, citing the company’s vested interest in maintaining its reputation and the trust of its user base.

The launch of this built-in VPN further strengthens Google’s commitment to user privacy, positioning its hardware offerings as more competitive in an increasingly privacy-conscious market. By prioritizing privacy as a core selling point, Google is carving out a more secure niche within the tech landscape.
