Linda Lavin, the beloved actress renowned for her role in the classic sitcom Alice, has passed away at the age of 87. She died on December 29, 2024, in Los Angeles due to complications from recently diagnosed lung cancer, as confirmed by her representative, Michael Gagliardo. Lavin gained fame for her portrayal of Alice Hyatt, a widowed mother working in a diner, in Alice, which aired from 1976 to 1985. The show was inspired by Martin Scorsese’s film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Her character resonated with many viewers, particularly working mothers. Lavin not only starred in the series but also sang its theme song, “There’s a New Girl in Town.”
