Davis was sentenced to 16 years in 2005 for the 1985 murder of 54-year-old newspaper columnist Jane Hilton. He was found stabbed 29 times inside the home he shared with his teenage daughter, Davis, and Davis’s then girlfriend.

Now, Davis has been able to reunite with his family and even shared a pizza with his loved ones and the legal team, which helps him escape.

He said, “They are angels. They really are. And they really came into my life when I really needed them, more than anything else in the world.”

Melissa O’Connell, one of the attorneys for the Northern California Innocence Project, said, “I’ve known Ricky for about 10 years, working on his case. He’s seen me through two children.”

Speaking just after his release, Davis said that “he misses a lot of things that I can’t even tell you.”
