The Samsung Galaxy S25 series has passed FCC certification, revealing key specs, design changes, and charging updates. Anticipated for January 2025, the series offers new features and some downgrades in charging capabilities

Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy S25 series is generating a wave of buzz, particularly after it secured FCC certification, revealing key specifications ahead of its highly anticipated January 2025 release. This certification has not only disclosed a range of exciting features but also revealed some unexpected downgrades that may leave prospective buyers contemplating their options.

Confirmed Specifications and Variants

The Galaxy S25 lineup will consist of three distinct models:

  • Galaxy S25: Model number SM-931U
  • Galaxy S25 Plus: Model number SM-936U
  • Galaxy S25 Ultra: Model number SM-938U

Charging Capabilities

The charging performance of the Galaxy S25 series sees mixed updates. Both the Galaxy S25 Ultra and S25 Plus will continue to support a robust 45W wired fast charging, a standard retained from their predecessors.

However, the entry-level Galaxy S25 will feature a lower 25W wired charging speed, coupled with a reduction in wireless charging capabilities, now capped at 9W compared to the previous 15W.

This shift has sparked concerns from potential customers who were hoping for advancements in this area, as opposed to a downgrade.

Connectivity Features

All three variants will come equipped with a comprehensive suite of connectivity options, including 5G, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), and NFC (Near Field Communication).

However, the standard Galaxy S25 will notably lack Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support, a feature available only on the Plus and Ultra models. UWB, which facilitates precise location tracking and superior connectivity, remains a distinguishing factor for the higher-end variants.

Design Tweaks

In terms of aesthetics, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is rumored to embrace a flatter design with softened edges, stepping away from the sharper contours of its predecessors.

This design overhaul is intended to improve ergonomics without sacrificing the phone’s premium look. Leaked renders and videos suggest that the Ultra model will sport a flat-edged frame akin to Apple’s iPhone, though Samsung’s iconic camera arrangement will remain intact.

Performance Enhancements

Internally, the entire series is expected to feature the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, offering substantial performance upgrades.

Running on Android 15 with Samsung’s One UI 7 interface, the Galaxy S25 series aims to deliver a seamless, fluid user experience.

Additionally, the Ultra model may feature an enhanced 50MP ultra-wide-angle sensor to further bolster its camera capabilities.

Production Plans and Market Readiness

Samsung is reportedly gearing up for the series’ launch by ramping up production, with plans to have around 2 million units ready by December.

The company expects an additional 5 million units to be produced in January, showcasing its confidence in the Galaxy S25’s ability to surpass the performance of its predecessor.

As the January release date looms, consumers are weighing the advantages of the upgraded features against the noticeable downgrades in charging speeds for the base model.

Despite some setbacks, the Galaxy S25 series is poised to be a formidable contender in the competitive smartphone arena, as Samsung continues to evolve and cater to the ever-changing needs of its audience.
